The Royal Malaysian Police
(Abbreviation: RMP; Malay: Polis Diraja Malaysia, PDRM;) is a part of the
security forces structure in Malaysia. The force is a centralized
organization with responsibilities ranging from traffic control to
intelligence gathering. Its headquarters is located at Bukit Aman, Kuala
Lumpur. The police force is led by an Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
The constitution, control, employment, recruitment, fund, discipline,
duties and powers of the police force is specified and governed by the
Police Act 1967.

At the district level, the
Officer in-Charge Police
District (OCPD)
directs and controls the District Police Headquarters (IPD) through the
command and directives of the state
Chief Police Officer (CPO).
He is assisted in his duties by the
deputy OCPD
and his staff and subordinate personnel in charge of the various
departments. In general, IPD Timur Laut is responsible on the management,
administration and logistic affairs of the police stations within Timur Laut
district. The Royal
Malaysian Police has adopted a combined proactive, situational approach to
crime and law enforcement in Malaysia. Its main objectives are to create
civic consciousness and to mobilize the public to get involved in crime
prevention and crime control activities. The police recognize that
community involvement and participation in crime detection, prevention and
control are necessary ingredients to the achievement of law and order in
Malaysian society. But there are many things each and every community
member can do to reduce his or her chances of becoming a victim of crime.
The prevention of crime vital towards building a peaceful and safe
community.
